KEEPING IT CASUAL

Xenia Consulting Services team leader Samuel Johns started employment support services website MyJobGenie.com to help students find their feet when they arrive in Australia.

“Alot of students we’ve spoken to didn’t understand their requirments to gain employment and how many hours they could do and what opportunites were availible to them while studying,” says Mr Johns. MyJobGenie.com, which will be fully functional later in the year, hooks international students up with Australian employers for part time and casual jobs and also provides services including resume and cover-letter writing and interview technique training. “The employers that we’ve spoken to told us that the resumes and information the international students were providing wasn’t in the correct manner or giving employers the right information so they could move through the recruitment process” Xenia Consulting Services won two majior prizes at RMIT’s 2008 Business Plan Competiton for MyJobGenie.com: the $5,000 Merchantlink third prize and the $5,000 City of Melbourne International Trades Award. “It gives us avenues for extra marketing channels and additional working capital for the business to be operating,”Mr Johns says. “It’s really helped us develop our concept and bring it a lot more forward. It’s also given us a lot of credibility in terms of the concept; there is a market and these awards show that there’s confidence out there in our ability to accomodate that market”
